Dining Table Revival

Although I truly love the whites of Shabby Chic, it just does not lend
well with our style of life. What feels so comfortable to me and what I keep gravitating
toward are the warm and rich colors that are Old World and what I think, European.

The table lived as a misfit for the past 3+ years so we finally
brought her up to par to fit the rest of the house.

Okay, as luck would have it, I was on Pinterest looking at my feed and
there it was, in raw, original color (other than the seats).
Yeah, it looked like this at one time. The seats were (they still exist under the new fabric)
covered in a beige and cream pinstripe.

I think I painted the base and chairs black first then went to this:

Then the move and now this:

Now that the top is a rich chocolate glaze, we can see all the scratches in the glass that were somewhat invisible with the white top. I doubt we will replace it but I surely do not want to have it off. We have yet to find a good, reliable and affordable glazier.
One thing I do love so very much about the dark top is a new photographing platform!
The light is amazing in the dining room with the wall of windows facing North.
See ~

I'm glad to have that checked off the list. School starts on Monday and my next project is to finish caulking and painting baseboards and crown. Yeah, it's been a while of in-completion.
Sometimes, that's how we roll.

See ya soon!

    1. Thank you Michelle! Sometimes I think I want a farmhouse on lots of acreage but we are making this house a dream come true, one project at a time. Everything we've collected over the years and kept in lieu of selling before we moved, fits perfectly here. I think it's a match made in Union Springs, Alabama. :)

    1. It definitely made a difference, didn't it? Can't wait to see what shade of gray you are using. It'll be a great color for your Fall and Winter shows. I'm using a lot of neutrals and browns for my booth in October. I hope I can bring to life what I have in my head!

    1. Thank you Maryjane! Love definitely went into it and on a budget. We had the paint and glaze leftover from the kitchen cabinets and I used leftover fabric from when I had the cushions on the couch reupholstered. I only purchased one yard of a complimentary fabric since I only had enough of the leftover for 4 chairs. Gotta love Joann's 60% sales!

  4. Amber,
    I love it!
Did you just add the chosate glaze over the grey??? It's gorgeous! I am trying to figure out what to do with my dining table. We have repainted the living room and Kitchen, a lighter color, and now my whitewashed cabinets look like the color! So, instead of painting he dining table ! I may just add the glaze to the old tired whitewashed dining table and chairs. We'll see I have to finish the armoire first!!!

    Betsy

    1. Hi Betsy! I used the Asphaltum over a chocolate brown paint. It gives it the wood look but you have to do long strokes and kinda dry. I love the look. Don't worry about ongoing projects.I have MANY! :)

  5. Amber,
It looks fabulous! You might consider silver leafing the back of the glass top. Antique style like Martha Stewart does, it would be magnificent!!!!!

    1. What a brilliant idea, Sheryl!! I'm going to look into that because it does sound amazing. I imagine it would look like a worn, antique mirror. I really love that idea, thank you!

    1. True, Gina. :) Your comment reminds me of Dolly Parton's, Coat of Many Colors. The meaning behind it is LOVE. :)
